PHILIPPINE leader Gloria Arroyo has cancelled an order for a presidential jet amid public outrage over her alleged extravagant lifestyle during a financial crisis, her spokesman said today.

The make and price of the aircraft were not disclosed but her spokesman, Cerge Remonde, said Ms Arroyo “does not want more criticism about her spending”.

“I am formally announcing the president has ordered the cancellation of the purchase of a presidential jet,” Mr Remonde said.

Ms Arroyo came under intense criticism after the New York Post reported this week that she and her officials ran up a $US20,000 ($23,764) tab for dinner at a restaurant while on an official visit to the US.

Okay. A few things:

1.) SOMEBODY TELL ME WHY THIS IS ON NEWS.COM.AU BUT NOT INQUIRER.NET? Come on, I know Australia is two hours ahead of the Philippines, but this is just unacceptable.

2.) I have an issue with the title of the article. Philippine leader? Umm.. President, yes. Leader, no.

3.) BUTI NAMAN NO! Mahiya ka nga sa sarili mo, Gloria.

4.) Her spokesman said something in the article about the jet being used by future elected presidents and not just GMA. Okay, cool, but the thing is, we don’t HAVE Php1.2B to spare right now.

Tell you what, let her have the jet, take her where she wants to go, and leave the bitch there.
